Customize Cognos Rave Bullet Chart

Requirement: To modify Bullet chart

  • Sample Bullet color is not aligned with color standard.
  • Remove labels from charts
  • Remove Satisfactory and Good Category from charts as want to show only Actual and Target for Time dimension.
  • Make it compact to avoid any large space utilization

Before Change:








Steps:

  • visJSON Update


  1. Update Elements to remove Satisfactory and Good section
  2. Update color and fonts for Actual and Target sections in Elements
  3. Remove Categories from data section and rows values for removed categories
  4. Remove Categories from axis section
  • Chart Area Update and Refresh Bundle
  1. Remove references from Chart Type Definition for categories
  2. Remove from String Resources
  3. Refresh Thumbnails
  4. Changed Bundle name to avoid overwriting of existing sample
  5. Upgrade Definition and visJSON
  6. Generate VizBundle Definition
  7. Import in Library
  8. Reopen Report Studio and use Convert Visualization or get from Tool Box.

Tool Used: IBM Visualization Customizer 10.2.2, Notepad++ and Cognos Admin Console

Cognos: How to replace an existing report without breaking links?

In this case, you might need to update links, such as links to job schedules. If you move and overwrite an existing report, the existing report ID and links are maintained. In this case, references to the moved entry are broken. However, this doesn't work in all cases and we see drill through links broken in some cases. Best approach in such case is to use cognos deploy method where you update reports in separate folder in same environment and import it to destination location. You can create single export and import tasks to use for all such updates.

How to change package for a report in IBM Cognos Analytics (ICA)?

In Cognos 10.x and 8.x , this was the simple to handle on Cognos Connection or via Repot Studio interface.  In Cognos 11.0.6, You  need to load classic view (Cognos Connection) to go back to this interface to change the package. In Cognos Cloud environment, we have single environment for Development and UAT. In such cases, when we move content from Dev folder to UAT area, we need to switch to classic mode to change the package.
